Have you heard? On May 18th the Department of Labor (DOL) released a revision to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) increasing the salary threshold of those eligible for overtime by more than double. Beginning Dec 1st, employees making less than $47,476 will be eligible for overtime. Complete legislative details, including exemptions to the rule, can be found at https://www.dol.gov/WHD/overtime/final2016/.
As employers prepare to make the necessary changes to comply, many are considering tools they need in place to track time & attendance moving forward. Even if decisions are made to limit overtime and/or comp time, visibility into labor data helps organizations monitor these costs on an ongoing basis. Performing regular internal audits will put employers at an advantage to not only measure compliance with FLSA, but to also oversee the impact on operational budgets.
